Laser tattoo removal helps speed up the natural fading process that is carried out by your body’s immune system. Tattoos are made up of numerous ink particles that are embedded deep in your skin’s dermal layer. Due to their large size and deep placement, the ink particles stay permanently trapped in your skin.

The number of treatments needed is unique to each person and their tattoo. On average, most clients will need at least 5 to 10 treatments for complete removal. Treatments are spaced a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks to give your skin enough time to heal before starting the removal process over again.

  • How many treatments will I need?

    The average number of treatments needed to completely remove a tattoo ranges from 5 to 10 treatments. Clients with old, faded tattoos or those interested in lightening their tattoo for a cover-up may only need 3 to 4 treatments. The number of treatments needed is unique to each client and their tattoo. My Secret Spa uses a variety of factors to assess your tattoo and best determine the number of treatments you will need. These factors include the age, size, and location of your tattoo; the ink colors, ink density, and ink depth; the client’s health, pre-existing scarring, and more.

  • Is the laser painful?

    Laser tattoo removal is often compared to a rubber band continuously snapping against the skin. Overall the treatment is very tolerable, however, some clients have said it feels like tattoo application. Luckily, laser tattoo removal is a very quick procedure and lasts anywhere from 1 to 15 minutes depending on the size of the tattoo being treated. My Secret Spa uses the Zimmer Cryo cooling machine to successfully numb the skin before, during, and after treatment. This cooling device helps alleviate any pain associated with the laser and protects the skin from unwanted thermal injury.

  • How long will it take to completely remove my tattoo?

    Laser tattoo removal is a lengthy process due to the 6 to 8 weeks healing period between each laser session. This amount of time is necessary to give your skin time to heal before undergoing another laser treatment. Pair that healing period with the number of treatments assigned to your unique tattoo and you could be waiting several months before achieving complete removal. Although laser tattoo removal requires lots of waiting, the results are well worth the wait.

  • How much does laser tattoo removal cost?

  • Are there any side effects?

    Laser tattoo removal is the safest method for removing unwanted ink from the skin. That being said, clients may experience temporary redness, swelling, itchiness, hyper- and hypopigmentation, scabbing, and blistering. All of these side effects are normal reactions to the laser and are healthy signs that your immune system is working to remove the shattered ink from your skin. After a few weeks, these side effects will heal with proper aftercare.

  • Can you fade my tattoo for a cover-up?

    Absolutely! My Secret Spa can completely remove a tattoo, selectively remove a part of your tattoo, or fade a tattoo to prepare for a cover-up. Laser tattoo removal is a great tool for cover-ups because it helps create a cleaner canvas for tattoo artists to work on. Cover-ups typically require heavy amounts of dark ink and are usually constricted to a larger size and limited use of color.
